2013/14 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey Hobby Box | 24 Packs | Factory Sealed

This box holds two years of NHL rookies instead of one. When the 2012-13 season was shortened by the lockout, the NHL Players' Association allowed only holdover rookies from the year before into that season's card products, so the new players of 2012-13 waited a year for their first cards. Upper Deck Series 1 of 2013-14 was the first set to include both rookie crops at once — the hobby calls it the Double Rookie Class, the first since 2005-06, the year of Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin.

The first overall picks of both drafts lead the Young Guns checklist: Nail Yakupov from 2012 and Nathan MacKinnon from 2013, whose Young Guns card is number 238. MacKinnon went on to win the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022 and the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player in 2024, and his Series 1 Young Guns is one of his most sought-after rookie cards. Tomas Hertl, Alex Galchenyuk, Seth Jones, Sean Monahan, Jonathan Huberdeau and Vladimir Tarasenko are on the same list.

Each hobby box holds 24 packs of 8 cards, with six Young Guns rookie cards, two jersey cards and four UD Canvas cards per box. The base set runs to 200 cards plus the 50 Young Guns. Jersey cards have rare patch parallels, and Signature Sensations autographs appear at roughly one per case, so an autograph is not part of every box.

Earlier Series 1 hobby boxes are also in our catalog: 2011/12 and 2010/11, along with a 2005/06 Series 2 retail box from the previous double rookie season.

Which players a box contains is random; beyond the six Young Guns, two jersey cards and four Canvas cards per box, insertion odds are averages across the whole print run.
