The 2004/05 season never happened — the lockout cancelled it — so the 2005/06 rookie class carried two years of first overall picks at once. Alexander Ovechkin had been drafted first in 2004 and spent the lost season in Moscow. Sidney Crosby was drafted first in 2005. Both came into the league in the same October, and Ovechkin took the Calder Trophy.

Ovechkin's Young Guns rookie card is in Series 2. Crosby's is in Series 1. Upper Deck split the two most chased rookie cards of the era across the two halves of the base set. This is the Series 2 box, so Ovechkin is the Young Gun in it. Crosby appears here only on the Victory Update insert cards — worth knowing before the wrapper comes off rather than after.
