Stargate began as a film in 1994 and grew into three television series. Our catalog holds sealed card products from across that run, and read in order they show how both the franchise and the card hobby changed. This is what each contains.
The film, 1994
Collect-A-Card's Stargate movie booster box is the oldest piece: 36 packs, each with 7 film cards and 1 “Unlock the Stargate” game card, with chase cards randomly inserted. It covers Roland Emmerich's original film, before the television series changed the story.
The card game: System Lords
Comic Images turned SG-1 into a playable card game. The System Lords booster box holds 36 boosters of 11 cards, with new team characters — Tok'ra, NID, Russian and Jaffa — and every box includes the full set of 6 all-foil Ultra Rare cards.
Atlantis Season 1, 2005
A Rittenhouse box from the first season of the spin-off: 40 packs of 5 cards, a 63-card base set, and autographs and costume cards at 1:40 packs each — roughly one of each per box. The chase inserts run from The Quotable Stargate Atlantis at 1:6 to Fallen Hero at 1:480.
One autograph per box was normal in 2005. The comparison with the later sets is the interesting part.
SG-1 Season 9, 2007
The season in which Ben Browder and Claudia Black joined the cast and the Ori replaced the Goa'uld. A box holds 2 autographs and 1 costume or prop relic, with a 72-card base set and inserts including Book of Origin cards and production sketches.
SG-1 Season 10, 2008
The final season: 24 packs of 5 cards, a 72-card base set, autographs at 1:8 packs and costume cards at 1:24 — three autographs and one costume card per box on average. The signers include Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder, Claudia Black and Christopher Judge.
Reading the run
In three years, from Atlantis Season 1 to SG-1 Season 10, a Rittenhouse box went from 40 packs and about one autograph to 24 packs and about three. That is the hobby moving from base sets toward hits, and the Stargate boxes record it better than most.
All pull rates are averages across each print run, and no individual box is guaranteed to contain any particular card or signer.
