Compare this box with anything released in the last five years and the difference is stark. A modern Rittenhouse box holds 24 packs and guarantees three or four autographs. This one holds 40 packs and averages one.

That is not stinginess; it is what the hobby was. Autographs were genuinely scarce inserts, the exciting thing you might find rather than the thing you were buying. Most of a box was base cards, and completing the 63-card set from a single box was the ordinary goal.

What changed was the market. As collectors began buying for hits rather than sets, manufacturers responded — fewer packs, more signatures, higher prices, and base sets that almost nobody assembles any more. A box today is sold on its guaranteed contents; a box from 2005 was sold on the chance of something.

Which makes an unopened 2005 box a slightly different proposition. The odds are worse and the base set is complete, and a great many of these were opened twenty years ago by people who wanted the cards rather than the investment.
