An entire show's lead cast moved over

Season 9 is the one where Stargate SG-1 rebuilt itself around two actors who had just finished starring in a competing series on the same channel.

Farscape had been cancelled in 2003 after four seasons, to considerable protest. Its leads were Ben Browder and Claudia Black, playing an astronaut lost in a distant part of the galaxy and a professional thief.

When Richard Dean Anderson reduced his role and then left SG-1, the producers hired Browder as the new team leader, Cameron Mitchell, and Black as Vala Mal Doran — a con artist who talks her way onto the team. Both had appeared on Sci-Fi Channel for years; both arrived with an audience already attached.

It is an unusual thing for a long-running series to do, and it worked better than it had any right to. Season 9 introduced an entirely new enemy in the Ori, effectively restarting the premise in its ninth year, and the show ran two more seasons plus two films.

Fans of both series noticed immediately, and the two casts have been signing at the same conventions ever since.
