A team named after two of its sponsors, and everyone hated it
For 2024 the team formerly called AlphaTauri was renamed Visa Cash App RB Formula One Team. That is the full, registered, official name.
The reception was immediate and unanimous. Commentators refused to say it. Broadcasters abbreviated it to RB within a week. The team itself started using "Racing Bulls" informally almost at once, and made that the official name for 2026.
Two things were going on. The letters RB were chosen because they could stand for Red Bull without saying so β useful, since Formula One rules limit how closely two teams with the same owner may be associated. And two title sponsors were paying for the front of the name, which is what title sponsorship buys.
What made it grate was that the name described nothing. AlphaTauri was at least a brand with a look; Toro Rosso meant something in Italian. Visa Cash App RB is an invoice.
The car itself was competent β the team finished eighth, and Tsunoda outscored his team-mate for the first time in his career.
Tsunoda
2024 was his fourth season and the one in which he stopped being a prospect. He scored 30 of the team's 46 points and was promoted to Red Bull for 2025.
