The last Formula One car he drove

Ricciardo was dropped after the Singapore Grand Prix in September 2024, eighteen races into a twenty-four race season, and replaced by Liam Lawson. He did not race in Formula One again.

Everybody in the paddock knew before the race that it would be his last. On the final lap he pitted for fresh tyres and took the fastest lap — which removed a point from Lando Norris and handed it to Max Verstappen's championship. It was a deliberate parting gesture to the team that had made him, and he said afterwards he had a fair idea what was coming.

The career ends at 257 starts, eight wins and thirty-two podiums. He won for Red Bull at Monaco, Monza and Baku, and took the last of them for a resurgent McLaren at Monza in 2021 — a victory nobody, including his own team, had seen coming.

What is not on the record is the effect he had on the sport's audience. The Netflix series that brought Formula One to America was built around a handful of personalities, and his was the most visible of them.

The team's name

Visa Cash App RB — shortened to RB, raced as the VCARB 01 — lasted two seasons under that arrangement. It was AlphaTauri before and Racing Bulls after.
