Bank robbery was rarer than the films suggest
The Western bank is fixed in popular memory as the thing outlaws rode into town to rob. The historical record is thinner than that.
Researchers who have gone through court and newspaper records for the fifteen states of the frontier West between 1859 and 1900 count somewhere in the region of a dozen genuine daylight bank robberies in the whole period. Not a dozen a year β a dozen in four decades.
The reason is practical. A bank sat on a main street surrounded by armed townspeople who knew each other, the money inside was often modest, and the escape route was a horse. Trains and stagecoaches were the real targets: isolated, carrying known consignments, and stoppable somewhere nobody could see.
What banks in the West mostly did was ordinary and unglamorous: hold deposits, lend to ranchers against next year's cattle, and fail regularly when the cattle died. The James-Younger gang's attempt at Northfield in 1876 β which ended with most of them shot or captured by townspeople β is famous precisely because it was exceptional.
This one was designed by XingBao
BlueBrixx both develops its own sets and licenses designs from Chinese manufacturers under its own name. This Wild West series is the second kind. It is not hidden and not a criticism β it is how the company built a catalogue of thousands of sets quickly β but it explains why the same model may exist elsewhere under a different name.
In the BlueBrixx range
Sets 103410 (Saloon) and 103412 (Farm) are the other Wild West buildings, designed to stand alongside this one.
