Rittenhouse 2023 Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 1 – Sealed Case (12 Boxes)

A factory-sealed case of Rittenhouse's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season One trading cards. Per box: 4 autograph cards and 1 relic card. Case topper: Pike and Spock rendered art metal cards.

The actor who played Hemmer is blind

Bruce Horak appears in the signer list, and the casting behind that name is worth knowing.

Horak played Hemmer, the Aenar chief engineer — a member of a species that is blind, navigating by telepathy and other senses. He is himself legally blind, having lost most of his sight to retinoblastoma as a child; he retains a small amount of peripheral vision in one eye.

Casting a blind actor as a blind character sounds obvious and is genuinely rare. What made it work is that Horak had already built a career around it: he is a painter as well as an actor, and his portraits — made from what he can perceive rather than from what a sighted painter would see — had been exhibited for years before Star Trek called.

The character was killed off at the end of the season, which is a Star Trek tradition of its own. The autograph remains, from a single season, which is exactly the condition that makes a card interesting ten years later.

Who signs

Anson Mount (Pike), Ethan Peck (Spock), Rebecca Romijn's colleagues across the bridge crew — Melissa Navia, Celia Rose Gooding, Babs Olusanmokun, Jess Bush, Christina Chong — plus Bruce Horak, Dan Jeannotte, Jesse James Keitel, Gia Sandhu, Adrian Holmes and more.

Also randomly inserted: autograph/relic cards, dual autographs, and The Elysian Kingdom autograph cards.
