COBI Sherman M4A3E2 Jumbo Set 2550

COBI's Sherman M4A3E2 Jumbo is built from 720 blocks, with working tracks, a rotating turret and barrel, opening hatches, access to a brick-built engine, and two figures with accessories. Every marking is pad-printed, including the crew's own graffiti; the set contains no stickers.

The tank nobody could identify

This is Cobra King, the Jumbo that led the column into Bastogne on 26 December 1944 and reached the 101st Airborne after a week of encirclement. It is one of the best-documented moments of the Ardennes, and for more than fifty years afterwards nobody knew where the tank was.

The hull survived. It sat on a memorial plinth in Germany wearing the wrong unit markings and a name that was not its own, examined by visitors who had no reason to look twice. It was only in 2001 that an American army chaplain, Keith Goode, began pulling at the discrepancies and established what the anonymous wreck actually was.

Cobra King is now restored and at Fort Benning in Georgia. A correctly painted stand-in sits in Bastogne in its place.

The Jumbo itself was a stopgap: 254 built, armour thickened to survive what ordinary Shermans could not, and issued to lead columns precisely because it was the one that would take the first shot.
