COBI's Rolls-Royce Armoured Car 1920 Pattern Mk I is a 1:35 model built from 267 blocks, developed with The Tank Museum, with a British driver figure. A new shade of green brick was made for this set. All markings are printed.

The armoured car is a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost underneath — a luxury chassis with armour plate and a turret bolted on. In 1914 that was the only way to get a vehicle reliable enough to be worth armouring.

T. E. Lawrence ran them in the Arabian desert and wrote that a Rolls in the desert was worth more than rubies. He meant it literally: the cars could cross terrain no other vehicle managed, kept running where anything else broke, and a handful of them could dominate ground that would otherwise need a regiment.

This particular car

The vehicle COBI modelled is the oldest running exhibit at The Tank Museum, built in 1920. It served in Ireland, then Shanghai, then Egypt, came home to patrol the Norfolk coast during the Second World War, and entered the museum collection in 1947. In 1997 Queen Elizabeth II rode in it.
