It is worth pausing on that number, because print runs in this hobby are usually opaque and rarely this small.

A mainstream sports card release runs to hundreds of thousands of boxes. A well-supported entertainment set might be 5,000 to 15,000. Two thousand four hundred is a different category — spread across every shop, distributor and collector on earth, it works out at a handful of boxes per country.

The consequence is not that the cards are automatically valuable. Scarcity only matters where there is demand, and Foundation is a prestige drama rather than a mass franchise. What it does mean is that the supply cannot respond. If the series finds its audience later — as Apple TV+ shows often do — there is no second printing and no warehouse to draw on.

That is the specific bet a sealed box of this represents, and it is a more honest description than calling it an investment.
