The bar is real, and the inside is nothing like it

The exterior shot at the start of every episode is the Bull & Finch Pub on Beacon Street in Boston — a genuine bar that had been there since 1969, chosen because the producers wanted somewhere that looked like a neighbourhood rather than a set.

Everything after the door is a sound stage in Los Angeles, and it looks nothing like the real place. The Bull & Finch is a low-ceilinged basement room; the television Cheers is a wide, open bar designed so three cameras can see everyone at once.

That did not stop anybody. Visitor numbers went from a few thousand a year to around a million. The owners eventually gave in, renamed the business Cheers Beacon Hill, and later opened a second location at Faneuil Hall built as an exact replica of the television set — so that people who came to see the bar from the programme could finally see the bar from the programme.

The original room is still there underneath it, and it is still a low-ceilinged basement.

All autographs signed on-card: Ted Danson (Sam), Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), George Wendt (Norm), Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith), John Ratzenberger (Cliff) and more. Costume relics feature screen-used wardrobe from Ted Danson, Kelsey Grammer, Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, George Wendt and Woody Harrelson.
