On-card, and why collectors care about the difference

The specification says the autographs are signed on-card. That phrase divides the hobby, and it is the single most consequential detail on this page.

An on-card autograph means the actor was sent the actual trading cards and signed them. What you pull is the object they held.

A sticker autograph means the actor signed a sheet of clear labels, which were then applied to cards at the factory. It is far easier to organise — stickers travel, cards get damaged, and a busy actor can sign a sheet anywhere — and it is why most sports card autographs are done that way.

Collectors consistently value on-card higher, and the gap is not small. The signature sits in the design rather than on a patch stuck over it, and there is no question about whether the right sticker ended up on the right card.

Getting Patrick Stewart to sign several thousand actual cards is a logistical achievement, and it is the reason this set is priced where it is.
