He played the Ninth Doctor for one series in 2005, relaunched a programme that had been off the air for sixteen years, and left after thirteen episodes.

Then he said nothing. He declined to appear in the fiftieth anniversary special in 2013, where every other living Doctor turned up. He did not attend conventions. He did not sign. For a decade and a half the actor who brought Doctor Who back was the one part of it you could not collect.

He has since been open about why — a breakdown in his relationship with the production team, and his own account of leaving because he could not work in the way he was being asked to. He returned to the role for audio dramas from 2021, and began appearing at conventions.

Which is what makes this set's billing of first on-card autographs meaningful rather than marketing. For most of the modern era of Doctor Who collecting, a genuine Eccleston card did not exist.
