COBI PzKpfw VI Tiger 131 Set 2710

COBI's PzKpfw VI Tiger 131 is a 1:48 model built from 340 blocks, with a rotating turret, a movable gun barrel and working tracks and wheels. All markings are printed onto the blocks.

What the number means

131 is not a serial number or a registration. German tank numbers were read digit by digit and told you exactly where the vehicle belonged: first digit the company, second the platoon, third the individual tank. So 131 is the first tank of the third platoon of the first company — a platoon commander's vehicle.

Anyone who could read the system could look at a painted turret number across a field and know the unit structure in front of them, which is why the numbers were often painted in outline only, or small, or left off entirely later in the war.

This particular 131 is the Tiger at The Tank Museum in Bovington, captured in Tunisia in April 1943 and the only Tiger I in the world that still runs.
