COBI Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant Set 2582

COBI's Panzerjäger Tiger (P) Elefant is a 1:28 model built from 1,252 blocks, 28.5 cm long, with a removable brick engine, working tracks, a gun that moves in both axes, interior detail and opening hatches. A crew figure with a submachine gun and a jerrycan is included, plus a printed nameplate. No stickers.

What they changed, and why

The Elefant is the Ferdinand after Kursk. Of the ninety built, forty-eight survived the battle, and the rebuild programme that followed addressed exactly what the fighting had exposed.

The most important addition was a machine gun in the hull front. Without one, the Ferdinand could not defend itself against infantry at close range, and Soviet troops at Kursk had learned to approach on foot and attack the running gear or set fire to the engine deck. A commander's cupola was added too, because a commander who cannot see is a commander who cannot avoid that situation in the first place.

Zimmerit anti-magnetic paste went on the armour, and the frontal plate was thickened further. The rebuilt vehicles went to Italy and then back to the Eastern Front, where the same problem returned in a different form: they were too heavy for Italian bridges.
