COBI Panzer VI Tiger Set 2703

COBI's Panzer VI Tiger is a 1:48 model built from 326 blocks, 17 cm long, with a movable gun, a rotating turret and working tracks. All markings are printed.

Each one cost as much as several Panzer IVs

The Tiger's reputation is built on what it did to Allied tanks. The number that decided the war is what it did to German factories.

A Tiger I took roughly 300,000 Reichsmarks and around 300,000 man-hours to build — about twice a Panther and several times a Panzer IV. Every Tiger that left Henschel's works represented several medium tanks that were not built.

1,347 were completed. In the same period Germany built around 8,500 Panzer IVs, the Soviet Union built 57,000 T-34s and the United States 49,000 Shermans.

A Tiger could destroy four or five opponents and frequently did. It could not destroy forty, and it could not be in two places at once. Roughly half of all Tiger losses were not to enemy fire at all but to breakdowns and to crews destroying their own vehicles when they could not be recovered — because a 57-tonne tank that stops is a 57-tonne problem.

It was an extraordinary machine and the wrong thing to build.
