Ten in a row, at Monza, in front of the tifosi

This was the win that broke the record. Ten consecutive victories had never been achieved by any driver in Formula One — Sebastian Vettel's nine, set for the same team in 2013, had stood for a decade.

Verstappen broke it at Monza, which is the circuit where Ferrari's supporters gather in the tens of thousands and where a Red Bull victory is received the way you would expect.

He did not lead from the start. Carlos Sainz took pole for Ferrari and held the lead for fourteen laps, defending hard enough that the crowd allowed itself to believe. Verstappen took him at the first chicane on lap fifteen and was gone.

Sergio Pérez then passed Sainz as well, making it a Red Bull one-two at the Italian Grand Prix, and Sainz and Charles Leclerc spent the closing laps racing each other for third with the desperation of men who knew the alternative was nothing.

The record now stands at ten, and it was ended one race later at Singapore — the only Grand Prix Red Bull lost all year.
