This win broke a record that had stood since 1988

Budapest was Red Bull's twelfth consecutive victory as a constructor, counting from the end of the previous season — which put the team past the McLaren of 1988.

That McLaren is the benchmark against which all dominance in Formula One is measured. The MP4/4, with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, won fifteen of sixteen races in a single season. The one it lost was Monza, where Senna collided with a backmarker three laps from the end while leading.

Red Bull's streak eventually reached fifteen in a row before Ferrari won in Singapore, which means it passed the 1988 team on consecutive wins while falling one short of matching its season record.

Whether a record set across two seasons is comparable to one set within a single year is the sort of thing the sport argues about happily for decades.

Hungary

Verstappen started second behind Lewis Hamilton, who had taken a surprise pole, and led by the first corner. Lando Norris finished second, McLaren's second podium in three races.
