The team was named after a clothing brand

AlphaTauri is not a racing name. It is Red Bull's fashion label, launched in 2016, and in 2020 the company renamed its second Formula One team after it.

That had never been done before. Teams have carried sponsor names for decades — Benetton, Jordan, Sauber Petronas — but those were outside companies paying for the privilege. Here the parent company renamed its own team after its own clothing line, purely to give the brand somewhere to be seen.

The team had been Toro Rosso, and before that Minardi. It was, and remained, Red Bull's junior squad: the place young drivers are tested and where Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly all began.

The experiment lasted four seasons. From 2024 the team is called Visa Cash App RB, which is a sponsor name again, and the clothing line continues without it.

So the AT04 belongs to a short, specific period — the last full season a Formula One car carried the name of a fashion brand owned by its own team.

Tsunoda

Yuki Tsunoda is a Honda-backed driver, and AlphaTauri ran Honda power — which is the other reason he was there. He remains the only Japanese driver on the grid in this era.
