This win equalled Ayrton Senna

Montreal was Verstappen's 41st Grand Prix victory, which put him level with Senna on the all-time list.

Senna took 41 wins in 161 starts across ten seasons and died at Imola in 1994 at 34. Verstappen reached the same number in his ninth season, at 25, and passed it two races later.

Comparisons across eras are mostly meaningless — there were sixteen races a year in Senna's time and twenty-two in Verstappen's, and reliability then meant a fast car finished perhaps three-quarters of its races rather than all of them. But the number itself carries weight for anyone who watched the late 1980s, and it was noticed at the time.

The Canadian Grand Prix also happened to be the race where Red Bull took its 100th win as a constructor — two round numbers on the same afternoon.

Verstappen took pole in changeable conditions and led every lap except one pit-stop cycle. Fernando Alonso finished second, a little over nine seconds behind, and was the only driver on the same lap for most of the race.
