He won, and Silverstone was watching someone else

This is the race where McLaren's upgraded MCL60 appeared in front of a home crowd, a week after its debut in Austria.

Lando Norris qualified second. At the start he took the lead into the first corner and held it for three laps, with 140,000 people making a noise Silverstone had not made in years. Verstappen then went past and that was the race.

Norris finished second, McLaren's first podium of a season it had started with the second-slowest car on the grid. Oscar Piastri, in the other McLaren, finished fourth.

Verstappen's victory was his sixth in a row and never in question. What the weekend is actually remembered for is a midfield team arriving at the front in the space of two races.
