A one-two at Ferrari's home race, and a perfect weekend
Imola sits about eighty kilometres from Maranello. The circuit is named after Enzo Ferrari and his son Dino. The grandstands are full of people in red.
In April 2022 Red Bull took pole, the sprint race, the Grand Prix and the fastest lap, and finished first and second. Verstappen led every lap he needed to; PΓ©rez followed him home.
Charles Leclerc, leading the championship for Ferrari, spun out of third place with five laps to go while chasing PΓ©rez, and finished sixth in front of his own crowd.
Winning pole, sprint, race and fastest lap in one weekend is rare enough to have a name β in the older format it was a grand slam β and doing it at a rival's home circuit is the sort of result teams remember for years.
It also mattered to the season. Red Bull had scored nothing in two of the first three races; Imola began the recovery that ended with both titles.
Why two-car sets exist
A single model is a car. Two cars from the same race, in team order, is a result β and one-two finishes are the only occasions a manufacturer can sell that.
It is also why these sets have smaller print runs than single cars. Two models, one box, and a buyer who specifically wants that race.
