The last Alfa Romeo in Formula One

2023 was the final season the name appeared on a Formula One entry, and that is worth knowing before it becomes obscure.

Alfa Romeo's connection to the sport is older than the sport. The marque won the first two world championships, in 1950 and 1951, with Giuseppe Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio. It ran its own works team in the 1980s, withdrew, and returned in 2018 as a naming partner to Sauber — a badge and a livery on a Swiss team's car rather than an Alfa Romeo in any engineering sense, but the name was back on the grid for six seasons.

At the end of 2023 the arrangement ended. The team became Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber for 2024 and 2025, and from 2026 it is Audi.

So this car carries a name that had been in Formula One, on and off, since the first race at Silverstone in 1950 — and will not be there again.

The Australian Grand Prix that year is remembered for its ending: three red flags, two standing restarts, a final lap run behind the safety car, and a result that took hours to confirm. Bottas finished outside the points in a season where the C43 scored 16 all year.
