QMan Meteor Mars Set 3105

Qman's Meteor Mars is a Trans-Collector 6-in-1 set built from 908 blocks: six robot warriors, each of which also transforms into a combat vehicle, combining into the Meteor Mars super mech. Supplied as a strip of six individual boxes. PDF instructions. Age 6+.

Two transformations, not one

This is the more ambitious set in the range, and the reason is a second layer that the others do not have.

In most combining sets the small models are vehicles, and the only transformation is the one that joins them into a robot. Here each of the six is already a robot that becomes a vehicle — and then the six robots combine into a seventh, larger one.

That means every part is doing three jobs. A section has to read as part of a vehicle, as part of a small robot, and as part of a limb of the big robot, with joints that hold in all three positions and nothing obviously left over in any of them.

It is why the piece count jumps to 908 while the individual models stay small. The extra parts are not detail; they are the hinges, pins and connectors that let one shape be three shapes.

Six boxes, not one

This version comes as a retail strip of six small sealed boxes, each with one model. Set 3105D is the same contents in a single gift box with a carry handle.

One large box is one present. Six small boxes are six.

The building guides for this set are supplied as PDF rather than printed, which means a screen on the table for the build.
