COBI Maserati MC20 Cielo Set 24352

COBI's Maserati MC20 Cielo is a 1:12 model built from 2,115 blocks under original licence from Maserati, 39 cm long, in red. The roof folds, the doors open upward, the steering turns the front wheels, and a brick-built engine sits behind the cabin.

A roof you can switch off

Cielo means sky, and the roof is the reason for the name. It is glass rather than fabric, and it uses a liquid-crystal layer that can be switched between transparent and opaque at the touch of a button — so the car can be a closed coupé, a coupé with a glass ceiling, or an open car, without stopping.

Folding it away takes about twelve seconds, and it disappears under a cover carrying the Maserati trident. Doing that on a mid-engined car is harder than on a front-engined one, because the engine is already occupying the space a roof usually folds into.

Underneath

The Cielo keeps the coupé's carbon fibre tub and its Nettuno V6, designed and built by Maserati in Modena with a Formula 1 pre-chamber ignition system: 630 hp from three litres, under three seconds to 100 km/h, over 320 km/h.

Set 24351 is the same Cielo as the Executive Edition in the aquamarine of Maserati's sixty-five-car launch series. Set 24335 is the fixed-roof MC20 coupé.
