A Ferrari engine in an SUV

The GTS arrived in 2018 as the version of the Levante with eight cylinders instead of six, and those eight were not built in Modena. Maserati's V8 of this period was designed and assembled by Ferrari at Maranello, then shipped down the road — the two companies had been under the same ownership for years, and the engine plant was shared.

So the fastest versions of Maserati's first SUV were powered by an engine made by a company that, at the time, was refusing to build an SUV of its own. Ferrari changed its mind later.
