COBI's Kübelwagen Personenkraftwagen Typ 82 is a 1:12 model built from 1,326 blocks, 30.5 cm long, developed with the Deutsches Panzermuseum in Munster. The steering wheel turns the front wheels, the doors open, the boot and engine compartment are accessible, and the interior is reproduced down to the switches and the tools. All markings are printed; the set contains no stickers.

Bucket-seat car

Kübelwagen is short for Kübelsitzwagen — bucket-seat car — and the name is older than this vehicle. German military light cars of the 1930s were fitted with deep bucket seats because they had no doors worth the name and no roof, and a soldier being driven across country needed something to stop him falling out.

By the time the Typ 82 appeared the term had stopped describing the seats and become the category. Officially this is the Personenkraftwagen Typ 82; nobody called it that then and nobody does now.

More than 50,000 were built between 1940 and 1945, in versions for transport, reconnaissance, medical evacuation and as a mount for light weapons. Surviving examples went on serving after the war in several countries, and a good number ended up as ordinary civilian cars.

In the COBI range

Set 2802 is the Executive Edition of the same vehicle: 1,530 pieces, with a display stand, nameplate, fabric roof, alternative headlights and accessories. The 1:12 range also includes the Willys MB (2805) and the Tiger 114 (2807).
