In Germany you cannot simply put one somewhere

The tiny house is often presented as an escape from property prices: build small, own it outright, park it on a piece of land. In Germany that last step is where it stops.

A tiny house is a building under German law regardless of its size or whether it has wheels, and a building needs Baurecht — the land must be designated for construction, which most land is not. Farmland, garden plots and woodland are not building land, and a district will not grant permission simply because the structure is small.

Then the building regulations apply in full. Minimum ceiling heights, insulation standards under the Gebäudeenergiegesetz, a second escape route from sleeping areas, connection to water and sewerage. A 20-square-metre house must satisfy most of what a 200-square-metre house must satisfy.

Which is why most German tiny houses end up on campsites, in Tiny-House-Siedlungen created specifically for them, or as a second dwelling in somebody's garden where permission already exists. The movement is real; the free-standing house on a cheap plot mostly is not.

Five rooms in 575 pieces

The interior is the point of this set. Kitchen, bathroom, living and dining area, main bedroom and a children's room are all built out — which at this piece count means the rooms are small and complete rather than large and empty.

The house opens, so every room is reachable. A model building that stays shut is a facade.
