Kiddicraft's KIDDIZ Pack: Mix It! contains 114 pieces — eight heads (four male, four female), eight unprinted torsos in red, black, white, blue, orange, dark blue, khaki green and yellow, eight pairs of unprinted legs, eleven headgear pieces and fifteen accessories. Age 5+.

Five and a half thousand different people

The set builds eight figures. The number of different figures it can build is rather larger.

Eight heads, eight torsos and eight pairs of legs give 512 combinations of body alone. Add a choice of eleven headgear pieces and it becomes 5,632, before anybody has picked up an accessory.

That is the entire point of the box, and it is a different kind of toy from a themed figure pack. A pack of five knights gives a child five knights. This gives them a parts bin, and the figures that come out of it are theirs rather than the designer's.

Unprinted is the feature, not the compromise

Every torso and every pair of legs is plain. That sounds like a cost saving and is the opposite of one — a printed torso is a specific person, a firefighter or a chef or a shopkeeper, and it can only ever be that.

A plain torso in eight colours is a starting point. It is the difference between a colouring book and a blank sheet, and it is why this is the pack to give a child who already owns several of the others.
