Qman's Iron Fist Commander is one of the four Trans-Collector sets that build the Roaring Flame God General. Released 2020. Age 6+.

One quarter of a larger robot

Sets 41301 Flame Blade Raider, 41302 (this one), 41303 Flying Bombing Soldier and 41304 Laser Sniper are four separate boxes. Each builds a complete model on its own, and each is also one section of a much larger combined robot. Set 41305 contains all four together, 1,201 pieces in one box.

Buy one and you have a working model. Buy all four and they join.

Combiners have a lineage

A robot assembled from several smaller robots is not a Qman invention — it is one of the oldest ideas in the genre, and it comes from Japanese television of the 1970s.

Getter Robo in 1974 established the form: three machines that combined, in different orders, into three different robots. Voltron and the Transformers combiners followed in the 1980s, and the commercial logic was obvious from the start — a child who buys one toy has a reason to want four more, and the fifth thing they get is free.

What makes it work as more than a sales tactic is that the combined form is genuinely different from its parts. A team of five separate machines and one giant one are not the same story, and the moment of combination is the point every one of those series builds towards.

Doing it with bricks changes one thing: the child performs the transformation rather than watching a mechanism do it.
