COBI HMS Hood - Limited Edition Set 4829

COBI's HMS Hood Limited Edition is a 1:300 model built from 2,620 blocks, 88 cm long and 22 cm high on its stand. The deck guns move, the main turrets rotate, and the rudders and propellers turn. This edition adds a black brick display stand, a laser-engraved plate with the ship's name, scale and an individual edition number, a matching certificate signed by COBI's president, and an exclusive figure of Vice Admiral Lancelot Holland, who commanded from the Hood and died with her.

The bell came back

Hood sank in three minutes on 24 May 1941 with 1,415 of her 1,418 men. For sixty years the wreck's position was unknown.

In 2001 an expedition led by David Mearns found her at around 2,800 metres in the Denmark Strait, broken into sections across a wide debris field — evidence of an explosion far more violent than a magazine fire alone.

In 2012 the Hood Association obtained permission to recover one object: the ship's bell. Two attempts failed in bad weather. In August 2015 Paul Allen's research vessel Octopus lifted it from the seabed.

The bell is now in the National Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth, restored and rung at ceremonies. It carries an inscription placed on it long before the sinking, by the widow of an admiral whose own son had died aboard an earlier Hood.

It is the only part of the ship anyone will ever touch again. The wreck itself is a designated war grave and may not be disturbed.

Holland

Vice Admiral Holland took the Hood and the brand-new Prince of Wales against the Bismarck and the Prinz Eugen. He had commanded for eleven months. His body was never recovered, and the figure in this box is the only one COBI has made of him.
