Eight small builds is a different proposition from one large one

310 pieces divided into eight models is around 40 parts each, and that changes what the box is for.

A single 310-piece model is one sitting of perhaps an hour. It has to be finished in one go or left half-built somewhere safe, and a six-year-old who loses interest at the halfway point has a pile of parts and a sense of failure.

Eight models of forty parts is eight completions. Each takes ten minutes, each ends with something finished, and a child can stop after any one of them having succeeded rather than abandoned. For the age this is aimed at, that difference matters more than the total piece count.

It also means the set can be spread out: one vehicle on a rainy afternoon, another the next week. And the eight combine into the transporter, so there is a reason to go back and build the ones you skipped.

The Trans-Collector idea

Qman's Trans-Collector line is built around vehicles that come apart and recombine — the transforming-toy idea executed with ordinary bricks, so the transformation is something the builder performs rather than something the toy does.
