The two services really do arrive together

A set that mixes fire and police looks like a toy company hedging its themes. It is closer to how emergencies actually work.

Almost any serious incident produces a multi-agency response, and the reason is that the three services need each other. Firefighters cannot work in a crowd — police clear and hold a perimeter so they can. Police cannot enter a burning building. Neither can treat the injured, so an ambulance service comes too, and all three answer to a single incident commander once anyone senior arrives.

Road accidents are the clearest case: fire crews cut the vehicle open, paramedics treat the casualty, and police close the road, manage traffic and investigate. Remove any one and the other two stop working.

Specialist police units — the SWAT idea in this set's name — attend fires for a narrower reason: arson, a barricaded person, or anything where the fire is the consequence of something else.

The Trans-Collector idea

Qman's Trans-Collector line is built around vehicles that come apart and recombine, usually into a robot — the transforming-toy idea executed with ordinary bricks, so the transformation is something the builder performs rather than something the toy does.
