COBI's Eurofighter F2000 Typhoon is a 1:48 model built from 642 blocks, 34.5 cm long, in Italian Air Force colours. The cockpit opens, the ailerons and wheels move, and the landing gear detaches for the included display stand with its nameplate. All markings are printed; no stickers.

Four countries, four different names

F2000 is not a variant. It is what Italy calls the aircraft everyone else calls something else.

The four partners in the consortium each gave the type their own national designation. Britain calls it the Typhoon. Germany calls it the Eurofighter. Spain calls it the C.16. Italy calls it the F-2000A, on the country's own designation system for fighters.

This is not bureaucratic pedantry — it was a condition of the partnership. Four governments that had each contributed a fixed share of the cost and insisted on their own final assembly line were not going to accept another country's name on their aircraft. Even the marketing material for the programme uses different words depending on where it is published.

The aircraft is identical. The paperwork is not.

Italy's fleet

Italy ordered 96 and took delivery between 2004 and 2020. Together with its F-35s they are the backbone of the Italian Air Force, and they fly quick reaction alert over Italy and NATO air policing missions abroad. Maximum speed around 2,495 km/h, range 2,900 km.

In the COBI range

Set 5848 is the Eurofighter in German markings and 5843 the RAF Typhoon in Battle of Britain commemorative colours — the same aircraft under three of its four names.
