myBrickZ DHL Streetscooter and Packstation Set 0003
myBrickZ's DHL StreetScooter and Packstation, set 0003, is an officially licensed Deutsche Post DHL set built from 369 pieces: the yellow electric delivery van with opening doors and a load area, and a Packstation parcel locker whose individual compartments can be filled and emptied. Thirteen pieces are printed; there are no stickers.
The post office that built its own car
The StreetScooter began as a research project at RWTH Aachen University in 2010, aimed at building an electric vehicle cheaply and quickly. Deutsche Post needed electric delivery vans, and at the time no German carmaker was building one in series. So in December 2014 the post office bought the start-up and became, in effect, a vehicle manufacturer.
Series production began in 2016, and within a few years the yellow vans were a familiar sight on German streets, with more than 17,000 delivered in Germany alone. Deutsche Post's own chief executive said the company never wanted to be a carmaker — it simply could not buy what it needed.
In the myBrickZ range
Set 0005 is the Deutsche Post DHL truck with a rolling container. Sets 0002 and 0006 are Berlin buses, and 0001 the train station.
