COBI Countryside Farm Set 1875

COBI's Countryside Farm is built from 310 blocks, 29 cm wide: a barn with a large sliding door, a hay loft reached by a ladder, and an animal shed with a raised roof and opening doors. Four figures are included — a rider, a horse, a cow and a pig — with a watering can, a broom, an axe, a spade, a barrel of carrots, a drinking trough and sandbags. Part of the Action Town range.

What a farm set does that a vehicle set does not

Most of COBI's output is a single object — a tank, an aircraft, a car — that is finished when it is built and then displayed. This is the other kind of set, and the difference matters if you are buying for a child.

A barn with a sliding door, a loft with a ladder, animals and a handful of tools is not a model of anything. It is a place with things in it, and a child decides what happens there. The loft can be climbed into, the animals can be moved, the door opens and shuts, and none of it has a correct configuration.

That kind of play lasts longer than a completed vehicle does, and it is the reason ranges like Action Town exist alongside the historical collection. It also mixes: the Action Town figures sold separately as sets 1852 and 1853 are the same size, and the farm animals work in any scene.

At 310 pieces it is a reasonable evening's building for an adult and child together.
