COBI Volkswagen T3 Polizei Set 24637

COBI's Volkswagen T3 Polizei is a 1:35 model built from 144 blocks under official Volkswagen licence, 13.5 cm long, in 1980s German police livery with rubber tires and printed markings. No stickers.

Why it is green

German police cars were green and white for forty years, and then stopped being. The scheme was standardised across the federal states in the 1970s and ran until the early 2000s, when the states began switching to blue and silver — partly to match the rest of Europe, partly because blue is easier to see at night.

The change took over a decade because policing in Germany is a matter for the individual states, not the federal government. Each Land decided for itself and repainted its fleet on its own schedule, so for years a driver crossing a state border watched the colour of the patrol cars change.

The T3 belongs firmly to the green era. It served with state police forces, the riot police and the Bundesgrenzschutz, as a patrol van, a small command vehicle and a documentation vehicle for recording incidents.
