COBI Volkswagen T3 Feuerwehr Set 24635

COBI's Volkswagen T3 Feuerwehr is a 1:35 set built from 238 blocks: the fire service van at 13.5 cm with warning lights, plus a diorama of a burning house with lawn, pavement and a hydrant, a firefighter figure with hose, axe and ladder, and a kitten.

The cat is not a joke

German fire brigades attend far more incidents that are not fires than ones that are. The official term is technische Hilfeleistung — technical assistance — and it covers road accidents, flooding, jammed lifts, doors that need opening, wasp and hornet nests, and yes, animals that have got somewhere they cannot get down from.

A small van is the right tool for most of that. In the German system the T3 served as an MTF, a crew transport vehicle, and as a KLAF, a small-incident vehicle for jobs that did not justify sending a pump. It carried four or five people and a boot full of tools, and for a village brigade it was often the only vehicle that left the station in a given month.

Which is why COBI put a kitten in the box. It is the most accurate thing in the set.
