COBI's Volkswagen Golf is a 1:35 model built from 68 blocks, 11 cm long, with the angular body of the first generation reproduced in printed blocks.

The car that saved Volkswagen

By the early 1970s Volkswagen was close to finished. The Beetle had sold for thirty years and was obsolete, and every attempt at a replacement had failed — the company had spent enormous sums on cars nobody wanted and was losing money badly.

The Golf of 1974 was the opposite of the Beetle in every single respect. The Beetle had its engine at the back, air-cooled, driving the rear wheels, under a curved body. The Golf had a water-cooled engine at the front, driving the front wheels, under a body Giorgetto Giugiaro had drawn with straight lines and a squared-off tail.

It worked immediately, and it defined what a small family car looked like for the next fifty years. Almost every hatchback since has been a variation on the same package.
