COBI's Tiger II Königstiger is a 1:12 model built from 11,170 blocks, 86 cm long, developed under licence with The Tank Museum in Bovington. The turret rotates, the gun elevates, the hatches open, and the suspension works on metal springs with ABS and fibreglass axles strong enough to carry the weight. The interior is reproduced, and the removable Maybach HL230 engine is roughly 550 pieces on its own, with its own display stand and nameplate. All markings are printed; the set contains no stickers.

Tank 104

This is not a generic Königstiger. It is one particular vehicle with a documented history.

It was built at the Henschel works in July 1944 and issued to the 1st Company of heavy tank battalion 101, commanded by Sepp Franzl. In late August 1944 it was abandoned near Beauvais in northern France, probably after being fired on by a Sherman of the 23rd Hussars. It spent decades at the Royal Military College of Science at Shrivenham and moved to The Tank Museum in 2006, where it stands today.

The camouflage COBI reproduced is that vehicle's three-colour late-war scheme, taken from the museum tank rather than from a paint chart.

Before you order

This is the largest set COBI has made. Eleven thousand pieces is not an evening or a weekend; it is a project measured in weeks, and at 86 centimetres it needs a space decided on in advance. It is aimed at experienced builders.

In the COBI range

Set 2807 is the Tiger I at the same scale with 8,000 pieces, developed with the museum at Saumur. Set 2732 is the Tiger II at 1:48 with 500 pieces, for anyone who wants the same tank on a normal shelf.
