COBI Tiger I 131 Set 3095

COBI's Tiger I 131 is a 1:72 model built from 144 blocks, 11 cm long, with rolling wheels and a turret that rotates. German markings, service flaps and engine vents are printed onto the blocks.

What a Tiger cost

A Tiger I took around 300,000 Reichsmarks to build, which was roughly twice a Panzer IV and about the price of several lighter vehicles. It also took far longer: the machining tolerances were closer, the transmission was complex, and the plant could not simply be told to build more.

So 1,347 Tigers were made, against about 8,500 Panzer IVs and more than 57,000 T-34s. A Tiger crew could and did destroy several enemy tanks for every one lost — but arithmetic of that kind only works if you have enough of them, and Germany never did. The Tiger's reputation is entirely deserved and it made no difference to the outcome.

This particular one, 131, was captured in Tunisia in 1943 and is at The Tank Museum in Bovington, the only Tiger I in the world still in running order.
