COBI's Sopwith F.1 Camel is a 1:32 model of the British fighter of the First World War, built from 185 blocks and supplied with a figure of the American ace George A. Vaughn Jr., complete with interchangeable headgear.

The propeller turns, the wheels roll on rubber tires, and the cockpit takes the figure. Two Vickers machine guns are mounted over the nose. The markings are printed rather than applied as stickers, including the white dumbbell of the 17th Aero Squadron carried on both sides of the fuselage behind the cockpit. A display plaque with the British and American flags is included.

One particular aircraft

The model is not a generic Camel but the machine flown by Vaughn, whose reproduction stands today in the National Museum of the United States Air Force. Vaughn flew first with the RAF and then with the American 17th Aero Squadron, which operated inside the British air force structure โ€” which is why an American pilot's aircraft wore RAF markings. He finished the war with 13 victories and decorations from both countries. The Camel itself entered service in 1917 and its pilots claimed more aerial victories than those of any other Allied fighter of the war.

In the COBI range

At 1:32 the model shares its scale with COBI's other historical aircraft and stands correctly beside them.
