COBI Roman Chariot Set 20069

COBI's Roman Chariot is built from 93 blocks: a two-horse chariot with a general aboard, dressed for a ceremonial entry into the city.

The triumph

This is not a racing chariot. A Roman triumph was a formal honour voted by the Senate, and a general had to have met hard conditions to be granted one — a war against a foreign enemy, a decisive result, and a body count that satisfied the criteria. On the day he rode through the city in a chariot like this one, his face reddened, ahead of the spoils, the captives and his own army.

Roman writers describe a slave standing behind him in the chariot for the length of the procession, whose only task was to repeat that the man was mortal — a counterweight to a day designed from beginning to end to make him look like a god.
