COBI RAM 3500 Ambulance Set 24609
COBI's RAM 3500 Ambulance is a 1:35 model built from 295 blocks, 20 cm long, with a removable roof and opening rear doors for access to the interior, rotating wheels on rubber tires, and a figure of an American paramedic with a stretcher.
This is a Type I ambulance
American ambulances come in three recognised shapes, and the difference is the chassis underneath.
A Type II is a van with the roof raised — cheap, easy to drive, cramped. A Type III is a box body on a van chassis, which is what most cities run. A Type I, like this one, is a box body bolted to a pickup truck chassis with the cab left intact, which is why you can see where the truck ends and the ambulance begins.
The reason to choose Type I is load and terrain. A pickup chassis carries more weight, tows, and handles rough ground, so rural services and anywhere with unpaved roads tend to run them. The trade-off is that crew and patient are in separate compartments with no walkway between — a paramedic in the back cannot speak to the driver except by intercom.
