COBI Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger Ausf. E Set 3124

COBI's Pz.Kpfw. VI Tiger Ausf. E no. 114 is a 1:35 model built from 870 blocks, 25 cm long, developed with the Musée des Blindés in Saumur. The turret rotates, the gun moves, the tracks work, the hatches open, and a brick Maybach engine lifts out from under the service flap. Two figures are included — a German tanker in camouflage and a French one in beret — and the model can be built with either German or French markings. No stickers.

The same tank, both sides

That is why there are two crewmen in the box. Tiger 114 fought for Germany, was captured, was repaired, and then served in the French army under the name Bretagne.

This was not unusual. Every army in the war used captured enemy vehicles — the Germans had a whole classification for them, Beutepanzer, and fielded captured French, Soviet, Czech, Italian and American tanks in numbers. What made a Tiger different was the work involved: you cannot run one without spares, without manuals, and without somebody who knows how to keep an overcomplicated German transmission alive. That the French managed it, and kept it running for years, says a good deal.

The tank is now at Saumur, where it has been under restoration and is intended to return to running condition for the museum's demonstrations.
