COBI Pz.Kpfw. VI B Tiger II Königstiger Set 2732
COBI's Pz.Kpfw. VI B Tiger II Königstiger is a 1:48 model built from 500 blocks, 22 cm long, with a rotating turret, a movable gun, working tracks and movable wheels. The camouflage and historical markings are printed onto the blocks.
Two different turrets
The first fifty Tiger IIs wore a turret designed by Porsche, and it had a flaw you can see from the front: the face curved outward in a smooth arc. A curved surface looks as though it should deflect a shell, and near the top it does — but the lower part of the curve angles inward, so a round striking there is guided downward into the thin roof of the hull.
Henschel's replacement turret, fitted to every subsequent vehicle, has a flat sloped face and no curve at all. It is less elegant and considerably harder to shoot through.
Behind either turret was the 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71, which could destroy any Allied tank at ranges beyond two kilometres, and frontal armour up to 180 mm. Around 490 were built. They were also unreliable, drank fuel Germany did not have, and broke down faster than the enemy destroyed them.
