COBI's Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B Jagdtiger is a 1:48 model built from 528 blocks, 22 cm long, with a movable gun barrel, rotating wheels and working tracks. All markings are printed onto the blocks.

Two battalions, and that was all

Fewer than 90 Jagdtigers were built, and only two units ever operated them: Heavy Anti-Tank Battalion 653 and Heavy Anti-Tank Battalion 512. Between them they account for the entire combat history of the heaviest armoured vehicle of the war.

The 12.8 cm Pak 44 could destroy any Allied tank well beyond the range at which the target could identify what had fired. What it could not do was arrive. At 72 tonnes the Jagdtiger broke down on roads, could not use most bridges, and consumed fuel that Germany was no longer producing in quantity. Most were lost to mechanical failure or destroyed by their own crews.

Because the gun was mounted in a fixed casemate rather than a turret, aiming more than a few degrees off centre meant turning the whole vehicle — which is a slow business in 72 tonnes, and the reason the Jagdtiger worked well in ambush and badly everywhere else.

In the COBI range

Part of the compact 1:48 armour series. Set 2732 is the Tiger II, the tank this chassis came from. The large 1:28 Jagdtigers are sets 2580 and 2674.
