COBI's Messerschmitt Bf 109 G is a 1:48 model built from 125 blocks, 18.5 cm long with a 21 cm wingspan, in Luftwaffe camouflage. The propeller and ailerons move, and all markings are printed.

The most-produced fighter in history

Around 34,000 Bf 109s were built. No other fighter aircraft of any nation, in any war, comes close โ€” the Spitfire managed about 20,000, the P-51 around 15,000.

The G, the Gustav, accounts for roughly a third of that on its own. It was in production from 1942 to the end, and by 1944 German factories were turning out more fighters than at any earlier point in the war, despite the bombing. The shortage by then was not airframes. It was fuel and trained pilots, and no amount of production solved either.

Bf or Me?

Both are correct, which is why you see the aircraft written either way. Willy Messerschmitt's company was called Bayerische Flugzeugwerke when the design was accepted, so the official designation was Bf 109. The firm was renamed Messerschmitt AG in 1938, and everything designed afterwards โ€” the Bf 110's successors, the Me 262 โ€” carried Me.

The 109 kept its old prefix in official documents and was called both by everyone using it, including Messerschmitt's own publicity.

In the COBI range

Set 5761 is the Bf 109 G at the larger 1:32 scale with a pilot figure, and set 5873 the earlier Bf 109 F at this scale.
